Two Tables

Good Morning,

So i have been painting… shock horror, after all, this is what this rusticwhites was meant to be all about!! So paint brushes are out! But this time a bit more select on the project and at a slower pace! These tables have been in my garage for a month or so and I’m glad they are on their way back to the owners.

My client wanted to keep the timber tops with an Antique base.  I used Chalk Furniture Finish Antique, Maple stain for the top and then covered the whole table with Voodoo Molly Clearcoat.

Think they suit my living area nicely, i’m very pleased with the finished look! My coffee table might be getting it’s own makeover soon! Happy Saturday to all.

Wow again ages since a post…. Oak Dresser Makeover

Hello there!

So again ages since i’ve posted… i thought life was going to slow down but no… it’s gained more speed and momentum!

So our No 1 daughter is moving out in 10 or so days (same town, different suburb which makes it slightly easier)…. it’s going to be so unusual and strange having both girls left home within weeks of each other! So again the major pack and sort, clean and paint her place is about to get under way… She has a great eye for design and I am enjoying watching it all come together for her! Easter will be here soon enough and yeah everyone will be here together, so will be cherishing those moments!

So a makeover! Here’s the before…

And the after… I wanted to go all white with this but it just didn’t work so ended up with Chalk Furniture Finish Antique then a dark wax finish.

Moth and Antique Sideboard Makeover

Hi everyone,

Another week rolls around so quickly! This year is going to fly so doing my best to make the most of every day and every experience! Had a trip to Auckland and Christchurch this last week. Visited Voodoo Molly Vintage Paint HQ in Auckland and learnt so much!! Antonia and I talked about colours, techniques and had time to do some hands on training, I came away feeling a lot more confident with her paint and other products 🙂 My oldest daughter and I went to Christchurch for two days to visit our youngest who is studying there, lets me honest study or socialising but it’s fabulous seeing her so happy and enjoying herself, with her first assignment under her belt she is loving her course! What else more can you ask….! #happymum!

So the Moth Cabinet which sold before I had a chance to promote and finish it properly so here’s some progress shots!

First the drab before….before1

I love how the inside top drawer is fully lined.before2

I painted it completely with Chalk Furniture Finish Antique. And pretty roughly, I wanted a really rough textured finish because I wanted to dark wax the bottom section of it and leave the top only clear waxed.

before3

These photos show up the texture beautifully, the dark wax is really picking up all the detail.

before4

Again I love how it naturally crinkled and peeled around the top of the cupboards.

before5

After finishing the dark wax I knew the top wasn’t right so I changed the top colour to Moth Chalk Furniture Finish, what a difference and I will be using this colour again! before7

Every detail just stands out enough in my eye, not competing with each other, the claw feet, shaped legs, moulding on the cupboard fronts and the appliqué moulding I put on the middle of the upstand. before6

The lady who purchased it attended our latest painting class and just loved it the minute she saw it and had to have it! I have two more large projects on the go… which I may just keep myself, about time to keep some beautiful pieces for myself??!

Peacock Buffet Makeover!

Good Morning,

Happy New Year to you all! Hope you had a wonderful break with Family and Friends. I managed to get a start on some projects starting to build in the shed.

Excuse the before shot, but this buffet was screaming out for some colour! Nice detail on the legs and a good size, not too big.

peacock104

Chalk Furniture Finish have released 5 new colours in the last couple of months Berry, Moth, Peacock, Little Black Dress and Paprika check them out here, I finally found the above piece to try Peacock on!!

This is a deep rich blue-green, if you just imagine a Peacock for a moment and the mix of blues and greens that is what Peacock is like!

I gave the buffet quite a textured finish and sealed the top sections with clear wax.

peacock102

Dark waxing the legs using Martha Stewart Liquid Dark Wax, thought I would give that product a go, not 100% sure on it, I do prefer an actual wax to work with I think. I gave some of the natural edges where you would expect wear and tear a light sand.

Peacock Buffet is $299 and available now. If your local pop by and have a look and view all the new colours from Chalk Furniture Finish.

Have a great week!

Drawers Makeover with Voodoo Molly!

Hello!

Yes it’s Spring here in New Zealand and time to really get into the painting!! I thought I’d try out Voodoo Molly Vintage Chalk, and I must say I love this product!  Here’s the before shot, unfortunately I had already taken the mirror off and given it a good sand, the top was a bit shabby. Beware lots of photos coming up….

photo 3
Voodoo Vintage Chalk is so easy to use!! The quantities and details are all on the packaging so you can mix up as little or as much as you need!  I made up enough to do these drawers with several coats. This additive turns any paint into chalk paint, so easy and it’s excellent quality.

photo 5

Give it a good stir before you get started.

photo 6

After the first two coats, the timber was bleeding through, argh don’t you hate that!!… not a worry thou! I used Voodoo Molly Vintage Sealer, another product I am growing to love!! It’s dries clear so if you distress it a little no white of the normal primer/blockers show through! Did I say I love this product 🙂

photo 1

It did need a few coats, but it’s so easy and quick to apply and no fuss!

photo 4

I also painted the chair! The colour is so calming and quite a neutral! And with the added Vintage Chalk I know the paint will endure family wear and tear.

pattens blue

A little distressing here and there.

I sealed the drawers with clear wax.

This would have to be one of my favourite colours!

Have a great night x Jamie
